Women's Leadership for Peace and Security in Africa

October 2009

TV interview in Ethiopia

This clip shows Frmr PM Campbell giving an interview to local press in Addis Ababa, Ethopia when she was there to co-chair, along with Mary Robinson, the Regional Workshop on Women’s Leadership for Peace and Security in the Greater Horn of Africa on Oct 6-9, 2009.  This, the inaugural meeting of a 3-year initiative, was organised with the UN Economic Commission for Africa and the African Union Commission and the Club de Madrid partners (Strategic Initiative for Women in the Horn of Africa, Isis-WICCE and the Institute for Security Studies).

This initiative was launched thanks to the support of the Governments of Norway and Germany and takes a strategic approach to harnessing the differences of female leadership at national, personal, professional and cultural levels –tapping a rich melting pot of ideas and activity across multiple skill sets and areas of expertise for transforming conflict.

Workshop activities included intensive training, thematic group work and high-level roundtable discussion to produce specific policy and action recommendations aimed at increasing the presence and impact of women in decision-making and peace processes in the Horn of Africa.
